Junior Chess

Chess for juniors

"I LIKED: ... everyone that battled me" - Past Participant

The Junior Chess Program gives children (ages 7 to 14) the opportunity to play and learn chess.  There is room for up to 29 Children to play chess with their peers.  Players of all ages have to find a way to think strategically and play fairly in very competitive, win-or-lose situations.

Members of the Lethbridge Chess Club will coach the chess program, allowing for one-on-one coaching for young chess players to improve their game-play.  Children who want to learn the game from scratch and can commit to a full set of sessions are welcome to join.  The program also relies on peer tutoring: strong young chess players are expected and encouraged to pass their knowledge and skills on to others.  This is an ideal place to experience the power of learning and practising in a playful and fun environment.

The registration fee includes a junior associate membership with the Alberta Chess Association, which provides chess boards and sets.
