WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE TRANSGENDERED?
“Transgender” is a loosely defined term that means having a gender identity, gender expression, or outward appearance that is different from the traditional gender expression or identity that is associated with one’s biological sex assigned at birth. For example, a person may be biologically male, but feel as if he is really female and dress or act in such a way to signal that he is female. It is important to note that not all people who are gender variant are transgendered. For the purposes of this information package, transgender will be used to mean individuals whose gender identity does not match the traditional gender identity and expression associated with their biological sex.
