Family Centre starts the new year with a new Executive Director

Lethbridge, AB. Family Centre has enjoyed steady and strong leadership over its 40 years of offering support for families and parents. Bonnie Pacaud started Parents’ Place in 1980, which then became Family Centre in 1994. In total, four Executive Directors have led this family resource centre. The year 2020 has been transformational for many, including Family Centre, bringing funding changes, a whole new world of online family support, and an open competition for the Executive Director position. Today, Family Centre expresses its gratitude for the leadership that the outgoing Executive Director Peter Imhof provided, as well as excitement in welcoming Maral Kiani Tari as its new Executive Director.

Peter Imhof became Family Centre’s Executive Director in the fall of 2014 and accomplished various milestones throughout his tenure, including first time accreditation with the Council On Accreditation, opening of the West branch at Coalbanks Elementary school, and addressing the needs of staff and clients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Family Centre thanks Peter for his strong leadership. We are sad to see him go and wish him well on his future journey.” says Mackenzie Becker-Casurella, Chairperson of Family Centre’s Board of Directors. “The Board is excited to welcome Maral as Executive Director. We have full confidence that she will apply her education and experience with grace and impact in order to effectively support families and parents in our community.”

Maral Kiani Tari comes to Family Centre with excellent credentials, a Master’s in Public Administration from Queen’s University, and an impressive track record as Executive Director of the Lethbridge Food Bank over the past 4 years. She has the following to say about starting her new job at Family Centre: “I am passionate about building lasting and effective relationships with the community. Family Centre has an excellent reputation. I look forward to lead an organization to provide effective services to strengthen families and help our community thrive.”
