Family Centre’s mission is to empower children and families through programs, resources and connections.  We are currently recruiting for:

Digital Communications & Media Strategist

Skills and pre-requisites for this role include:

– Working knowledge in digital communications, new media, marketing/advertising, or related fields
– Availability for approximately 5-10 volunteer hours per week
– Video recording and editing
– Assist with online marketing and advertising strategies
– Consult on social media content and analytics

Current Opportunities

Family Centre’s Volunteer Program places volunteers for a variety of positions. Orientation, training, supervision and performance evaluations are offered for all volunteers.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following position(s):

(1) Clerical Support – Family Centre Downtown

Description: Are you organized, people-focused and looking to gain valuable career experience? We are looking for volunteers to assist our administrative staff with a few duties!

Details: This role would include covering the reception desk on Wednesdays and Fridays between 1:00-3:00pm by answering phones, greeting clients, etc. Additional tasks include administrative support for our various programs and initiatives, including preparing materials, data entry, etc.

(2) Early Childhood Education Assistants – Family Centre Downtown & Family Centre West

Description: We are looking for volunteers interested in Early Childhood Education Assistant opportunities for Summer 2024!  If you enjoy putting your creativity and imagination to use as well as working with children 12 and under, this role might be for you!

Details: Please reach out to us for details! Duties include program set-up and preparation, interacting with children and their caregivers, assisting the program facilitator with any specific tasks, and clean-up. Opportunities available at both Downtown and West locations.

(3) Children’s Cooking Class Assistants – Family Centre North

Description: Are you passionate about cooking and preparing food? Do you enjoy working with children? We have an exciting volunteer opportunity for you! Our child/youth cooking classes aim to teach kids 6-15 years of age how to prepare delicious meals. We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join us on Monday-Thursday afternoons over the summer months.

Details: Volunteer support is needed as stated below for various programs.Duties include assisting our program staff with kitchen set-up, clean-up and helping kids with their recipes during the program. Knowledge of food safe and kitchen sanitization practices are an asset, but not required.

Kids in the Kitchen: Mon – Thurs Jul 15 – 18 12:30-3:30pm Ages 6-8
Plants to Plates: Mon – Thurs Jul 29 – Aug 1 12:30-3:30pm Ages 9-11
Kids in the Kitchen: Mon – Thurs Aug 12 – 15 12:30-3:30pm Ages 7-10

(4) Family Outdoor Play Volunteers – offsite

Description: We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to assist with our Family Outdoor Play program for July and August 2024. During the summer months, we take the show on the road pop-up style at various locations across Lethbridge. Please see below for schedule details.

Details: Duties include assisting our program staff with set-up (first shift), clean-up (second shift) and engaging children in games and activities. Please note this opportunity is outdoors and requires transportation to and from sites.

(5) Canada Day Event Volunteers – July 1st, 8:30am-4:30pm

Description: We are seeking energetic individuals to assist us at the Canada Day Event at Galt Gardens July 1st from 8:30am-4:30pm. Volunteer shifts are a minimum of 2-hrs in length and will be scheduled as follows: 8:30-10:30am, 10:30am-12:30pm, 12:30-2:30pm, 2:30-4:30pm. 

Details: Duties include assisting our program staff with set-up (first shift), clean-up (last shift) and engaging children in games and activities. Please note this opportunity is outdoors and requires transportation to and from Galt Gardens. Drinks and snacks will be provided on event day.

(6) Father Involvement Committee 

Are you a dad who wants to make a meaningful contribution to your community? The Family Centre has formed the Father Involvement Committee, and we are looking for dedicated fathers to join us!

About the Father Involvement Committee:

Our committee aims to increase father involvement in the Family Centre and serve as a resource hub for dads in Lethbridge. We strive to create, promote, and enhance programs and events that support fathers and their children.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Coordination: Help plan and promote events for dads and kids.

Program Improvement: Provide feedback and suggestions for fatherhood programs and services.

Community Engagement: Assist in making the Family Centre a welcoming hub for fathers by developing key messaging and initiatives.

Who Should Join:

– Fathers passionate about community involvement.

– Dads with creative ideas for events and services.

– Volunteers who can commit a few hours each month to meetings and planning.


– Meetings: 1 hour per month.

– Additional time as needed for event coordination and idea development.
